Chelyabinsk Meteorite

On February 15, 2013, a meteor entered our atmosphere at 19 km/sec and exploded in the sky over Russia. The blast created a fireball 30x brighter than the sun. Meanwhile, the main mass of the meteor continued on its trajectory and landed in an icy lake–leaving an 8 meter hole in the ice–and fragments from the explosion were scattered over a rural area.
